Your Black Peak Expedition begins with an early morning drive from Dehradun to the picturesque Himalayan village of Sankri, the gateway to several iconic treks and expeditions in the Garhwal Himalayas. The scenic journey of approximately 220 km (9–10 hours) takes you through lush forests, charming mountain villages, winding roads, and alongside the Tons River. Upon reaching Sankri (1,950 m), check in to your guesthouse, meet your expedition team, and attend a briefing covering the expedition plan, safety protocols, and gear check. Overnight stay in Sankri.
After breakfast, drive from Sankri to Dhatmeer, where the trekking adventure officially begins. The trail gradually ascends through dense forests of pine and deodar, crossing wooden bridges and traditional Himalayan villages before reaching Seema (2,600 m). Surrounded by towering mountains and flowing rivers, Seema serves as a beautiful campsite for the night. Relax amidst the tranquil Himalayan surroundings and prepare for the days ahead.
Today’s trek takes you deeper into the pristine Govind Pashu Vihar National Park. The trail follows the Supin River through dense forests, alpine clearings, and scenic mountain landscapes before reaching Rainbasera (3,100 m). As you gain altitude, enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding valleys while gradually acclimatizing to the thinner mountain air. Overnight camping at Rainbasera.
After breakfast, continue your ascent towards the breathtaking Ruinsara Tal, one of the most beautiful high-altitude lakes in Uttarakhand. Surrounded by snow-clad peaks, alpine meadows, and pristine wilderness, the lake offers a serene setting ideal for acclimatization and photography. Spend the evening beside the tranquil glacial lake before an overnight stay at the campsite.
Today’s trek leads to Kyarkoti (4,050 m), the Base Camp for the Black Peak Expedition. The trail gradually leaves the lush meadows behind, entering rugged alpine terrain filled with glacial streams and rocky moraines. Upon reaching Base Camp, enjoy panoramic views of Black Peak (Kala Nag) and the surrounding Himalayan giants. Settle into camp and rest for the upcoming expedition stages.
Begin your ascent towards the Advanced Base Camp at approximately 4,500 meters. The trail passes through glacial terrain and rocky sections while offering magnificent views of surrounding peaks and glaciers. Upon arrival, establish camp and spend the remainder of the day acclimatizing in preparation for higher altitude climbing.
This important acclimatization day is reserved to maximize your body’s adaptation to the altitude. Depending on weather conditions and the expedition leader’s assessment, the team may undertake a load ferry towards higher camps, practice movement on alpine terrain, or simply rest and recover. Proper acclimatization greatly improves summit success and overall safety.
After breakfast, begin the climb towards Camp I (5,050 m). The route traverses rocky moraines, glacial sections, and gradually steeper terrain while providing spectacular views of the surrounding Himalayan landscape. Upon reaching Camp I, establish camp and prepare for the next stage of the expedition.
Today’s ascent takes you to Summit Camp at approximately 5,500 meters. The terrain becomes increasingly rugged as you move through glacial slopes and high-altitude alpine terrain. Upon arrival, organize your equipment, hydrate well, and rest early before the summit attempt. Overnight stay at Summit Camp.
The most anticipated day of the expedition begins well before dawn. Equipped with technical climbing gear and guided by experienced expedition leaders, begin the summit push towards Black Peak (Kala Nag) – 6,387 meters. The climb involves negotiating steep snow slopes, glacial sections, and high-altitude terrain before reaching the summit. Standing atop one of India’s most iconic expedition peaks, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and countless snow-covered Himalayan summits. After celebrating your achievement, carefully descend back to Summit Camp for a well-deserved rest.
After breakfast, descend from Summit Camp back to Kyarkoti Base Camp. The long descent through glacial moraines and alpine terrain offers another opportunity to appreciate the spectacular Himalayan scenery. Upon reaching Base Camp, relax and celebrate the successful completion of the summit phase. Overnight camping at Kyarkoti.
Begin your return journey by trekking back to the beautiful Ruinsara Tal. Descending through alpine meadows and glacial valleys, the trail offers peaceful surroundings and magnificent mountain views. Spend the evening relaxing beside the pristine lake before your overnight stay.
Today’s trek retraces the scenic route back to Seema through lush forests, mountain streams, and picturesque Himalayan landscapes. Although it is one of the longer trekking days of the expedition, the gradual descent makes for an enjoyable journey through the heart of the Garhwal Himalayas. Overnight stay at Seema.
After breakfast, trek back to Dhatmeer before boarding your vehicle for the short drive to Sankri. Upon arrival, check into your guesthouse, enjoy a hot meal, and celebrate the successful completion of your Black Peak Expedition with fellow climbers. Overnight stay in Sankri.
After an early breakfast, begin the return drive from Sankri to Dehradun, bringing your incredible Himalayan expedition to an end. As you descend through the scenic valleys of Uttarakhand, carry home unforgettable memories of conquering Black Peak, witnessing breathtaking alpine landscapes, and completing one of India’s most prestigious mountaineering expeditions.
This is kept as an additional day incase you are not able to attempt the summit because of bad weather conditions.
