The trail climbs, giving you clear views of Tangle, Diude, and other charming villages. Soon, you’ll enter a pine and oak forest for a gradual ascent.
After about 30 minutes, the tree line recedes, and you’ll find yourself in a stretch of open meadows. Climb the hill to enjoy stunning mountain views on one side and a lush tree line on the other. From here, you’ll gradually descend on a wide trail.
An hour later, you’ll re-enter a dense pine and oak forest. Walk in the shade, listening to the crunch of leaves underfoot. The trail then climbs gradually before you reach the Dayara campsite. Set up your tents and rest for the night, enjoying the simple life of a trekker.
After breakfast, spend the morning exploring the Dayara meadows. The trail from here to Litham takes you through thick forests, lush green meadows, and clear streams.
The path starts by heading toward Gunas Pass, and after about 15 minutes, you’ll enter a pine forest. You will then cross a stream before exiting the forest, where you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the Dhauladhar Range and Gunas Pass.
The trail continues through magical grasslands. After about 30 minutes, it enters another Bhoj forest, and you’ll descend to a stream with a clear view of Litham. The trail crosses the Chandranahan stream just before you reach the campsite.
At Litham, you’ll be captivated by the incredible mountain scenery. Look to your left to see the Chandranahan Waterfall, with the famous Chandranahan Lake ahead. To your right are cliffs with snow patches, behind which lies Rupin Valley. In front of you are the snow-covered mountains that hide Buran Ghati itself.
This wide meadow is the last one you’ll see on the trek. Set up your tents, enjoy the beautiful views, and get ready for a good night’s sleep.
The trail to Chandranahan Lake starts by following a shepherd’s path to a ridgetop, then heads towards the snout of a waterfall. This small glacial lake is nestled among mountains and fed by snow flanks.
The journey to the lake can be difficult after the waterfall’s snout, but you can reach the lake in about an hour. Once there, you’ll witness an alpine valley and incredible views. The setting is idyllic, with grassy patches and small waterfalls turning into streams. Rough rocks mark the lake’s edge.
After taking in the views, you will descend steeply back to Litham. Make sure to start early from Litham to reach the lake around midday. Your overnight stay will be at the campsite.
After breakfast, the climb to the pass is short but steep, and today you’ll finally see Buran Pass on the way.
As you trek, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the Dhauladhar Range and Gunas Pass. The landscape here is magnificent, set against the green grasslands of Litham and the cliffs of Rupin Valley.
The trail follows the left bank of the Pabbar River. As the river descends rapidly, the path begins a sharp ascent into a gorge valley. From here, Buran Ghati comes into full view.
A shepherd’s trail will lead you toward Dhunda. After about an hour of climbing, you’ll reach the top of Dhunda ridge, where you can enjoy clear and magnificent views of Buran Ghati.
The campsite lies amid snow-capped mountains on all sides. Even in late June, you can find patches of snow everywhere.
Today is a long and challenging day, so wake up early. Leave the Dhunda campsite by following the ridge and boulder-hopping to reach the base of Buran Pass.
It takes about an hour to reach the pass from the base. The ascent to the top of Buran Ghati is exhilarating. The surface at the top is narrow, and descending is very risky without a rope. You’ll need to use ropes to get down to a snowfield about 100 meters below.
Sliding down the series of snow surfaces is quick, and you’ll lose the altitude you gained in one go. You will descend about 3,000 feet to reach the end of the snow line. The trail then takes you down a ridge with blooming flowers and green shrubs.
Enjoy the pleasant views of the lush green valley and the towering mountains. You’ll reach a stream in about an hour. Cross it, and you’ll see a hut in the distance. This is your campsite for the night.
Today, the trail will surprise you with its diverse vegetation and changing landscapes. Follow the wide path of Barua Khud.
As you descend, you’ll see a stream meet Barua Khud. Cross the stream over a bridge and continue exploring the varied plant life. After about an hour of hiking, you’ll reach the first apple orchards, signaling your return to civilization.
Along the way, a prominent rock offers a viewpoint of the entire Barua village. You’ll then enter this charming village, full of fruit orchards. Descend through the village to reach the final bridge over Barua Khud.
You will stop here before your drive back to Shimla, with vehicles arranged by The Dream Treks.
