Adi Kailash & Om Parvat Yatra – A Sacred Himalayan Pilgrimage of Devotion and Discovery

The Adi Kailash & Om Parvat Yatra is one of the most spiritually charged and visually enchanting pilgrimages in the Indian Himalayas. Nestled in the remote Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, Adi Kailash — also known as Chhota Kailash — is revered as the earthly abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Standing at an imposing 5,945 meters, it mirrors the grandeur of the sacred Mount Kailash in Tibet. Nearby, the mystical Om Parvat reveals a divine natural wonder: the snow on its surface forms the holy “ॐ” symbol, visible in perfect symmetry — a rare and deeply moving sight for pilgrims.

The Journey:

The route to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat is as captivating as the destinations themselves. Starting from Dharchula, the journey takes you through charming Himalayan villages, lush valleys, suspension bridges, and high mountain passes. The path blends driving through rugged mountain roads with short treks that gradually prepare you for the high altitudes.

Along the way, you’ll witness the serene Parvati Sarovar, where the reflection of Adi Kailash shimmers in crystal-clear waters, and experience the spiritual energy that has drawn sages, yogis, and devotees for centuries. At Om Parvat, the moment you first see the divine “ॐ” etched in snow against the dark rock is one that transcends words — a profound connection between nature and faith.

Sacred Significance:

Adi Kailash holds immense mythological importance in Hinduism, believed to be a place where Lord Shiva meditated and blessed devotees. Om Parvat, on the other hand, is seen as a direct manifestation of the divine syllable that represents the essence of the universe. Together, these sacred sites offer not just a yatra, but a deep spiritual awakening.

A warm dinner will be served at the hotel, followed by an overnight stay, so that you are fresh for the next day’s journey.

Start your day with a healthy breakfast at the hotel before beginning the journey to Nabhi. The drive is shorter compared to the previous day, taking about 5–6 hours, but it is filled with breathtaking views of
the mountains and valleys. As the road climbs higher, the air gets cooler and fresher, and the scenery becomes even more beautiful. You will pass through quiet villages and winding hill roads, making the
journey peaceful and enjoyable. By afternoon, you will arrive at Nabhi, a charming mountain village surrounded by natural beauty. On arrival, check in to your homestay, where you will experience warm local hospitality. After an early breakfast, begin your journey from Nabhi towards Adi Kailash. The drive takes you through the beautiful Vyas Valley, with snow-clad peaks and peaceful landscapes. On reaching Jollingkong, you will start a short 1.5 km trek to Parvati Sarovar, a holy lake surrounded by mountains, including the famous Pandava Parvat. From here, continue a 2 km trek to Gauri Kund, a sacred spot connected with Goddess Parvati. The highlight of the day is the breathtaking Adi Kailash Darshan, where you witness the majestic peak often called the “Chhota Kailash,” standing tall with spiritual energy. After exploring, trek back to Jollingkong for a short rest and lunch break. On the return
drive, you will pass by Brahma Parvat, Pandava Fort, Kunti Parvat, and Draupadi Pallu, each with its own mythological importance. By evening, return to Nabhi, enjoy a warm dinner, and rest at your homestay.

After an early breakfast, begin your journey towards Om Parvat, one of the most sacred sites in the Himalayas. The drive takes you through the scenic Kumaon Himalayas, with snow-covered peaks, deep
valleys, and fresh mountain air. On the way, stop at the holy Kali Mandir in Kala Pani, where devotees offer prayers to Goddess Kali. You will also get views of Shesh Nag Parvat, known for its snake-like
ridges, and visit the ancient Ved Vyas Gufa, believed to be the meditation place of Sage Ved Vyas. The highlight of the day is the Om Parvat Darshan, where the natural snow formation on the mountain looks exactly like the sacred symbol “Om” , a sight that fills the heart with peace and devotion. After offering prayers and taking in the spiritual atmosphere, drive back to Pithoragarh. In the evening, enjoy a comforting dinner and stay overnight at the hotel.

Wake up early in Soar Ghati, enjoy a fresh breakfast, and check out from the hotel. Today’s journey takes you to Bhimtal, a peaceful lake town in Uttarakhand. On the way, stop by the famous Chitai Golu Dev Mandir, a unique temple where devotees write their wishes on paper and hang them, believing the deity will fulfill them. Spend some time exploring the temple, soaking in the calm atmosphere, and maybe pen down your own wish. Afterward, continue your drive with a break for lunch en route. By afternoon, you will visit the spiritual and serene Kainchi Dham Mandir, known worldwide as a place of meditation and peace. After offering prayers and enjoying the surroundings, continue towards Bhimtal. By evening, arrive in Bhimtal and check in to your hotel.
