Best Time to Do the Sar Pass Trek — Everything You Need to Know

If you're planning to explore the stunning beauty of Sar Pass Trek, one of the most scenic treks in Himachal Pradesh, timing your adventure is crucial. While technically this trek can be attempted in other seasons, the best and most recommended time to do Sar Pass Trek is from mid-April to June.

In fact, beyond June, Sar Pass is rarely chosen by trekkers — and for good reasons. In this blog, we at The Dream Treks will explain why summer (April to June) is the perfect window to experience Sar Pass and why other times of the year are not suitable or popular for this trek.

🌸 April to June — The Ideal Window for Sar Pass Trek

Sar Pass Trek officially opens for trekkers around mid-April when winter starts to loosen its grip over the high-altitude trails. This season continues till June and offers the most beautiful and safest trekking conditions.

What Makes April to June the Best Time?

  1. Magical Snow Experience in April and Early May

If you want to experience walking over thick layers of snow, the early season (April to mid-May) is perfect. The entire trail is covered in pristine white snow, giving you that classic Himalayan winter trek vibe. Imagine waking up in camps surrounded by snowfields, crossing frozen patches, and sliding on snow slopes — it’s a dream come true for snow lovers!

  1. Mix of Snow and Greenery in Late May and June

As May progresses and temperatures rise, lower camps start turning lush green, while higher camps like Biskeri Thatch and Sar Pass remain snow-covered. By June, you get the best of both worlds — green meadows with wildflowers blooming and snow-capped peaks in the background. This makes for incredible views and a variety of landscapes throughout the trek.

  1. Pleasant Weather and Clear Views

The weather from April to June is stable and pleasant. Days are mostly sunny with clear blue skies, giving you uninterrupted views of the Parvati Valley and surrounding Himalayan ranges. Nights can be cold, especially in April and May, but with proper gear, it’s manageable.

Late May to June10°C to 15°C3°C to 7°C

Why Not Other Seasons?

While Sar Pass is technically accessible, no one prefers to do this trek beyond June, and here’s why:

  • July & August (Monsoon): The region receives heavy rainfall, making trails slippery and dangerous with a high risk of landslides. Most organizers, including us, do not conduct Sar Pass Trek during monsoon.
  • September & October (Post-Monsoon/Autumn): Although some treks in Himachal are done during these months, Sar Pass loses its charm without snow, and the trails become dry and less appealing. As a result, this trek is not popular in autumn, and very few (if any) groups operate it.
  • November to March (Winter): Extreme snow accumulation makes the trail unsafe and inaccessible without technical gear. The route remains closed, and trekking is not permitted during these months.

Final Thoughts — Choose April to June for the Best Sar Pass Experience!

If you truly want to enjoy the authentic beauty of Sar Pass, with either thrilling snow trails or a mix of snow and meadows, April to June is the only season to consider. After that, the trek essentially goes off the radar until next spring.

Whether you're a first-time high-altitude trekker or an experienced adventurer, The Dream Treks offers guided Sar Pass Trek experiences during this perfect window, ensuring your journey is safe, comfortable, and unforgettable.
